Brazilian forward, Robinho has been handed a 9-year prison sentence for his alleged involvement in a sexual assault case.
Robinho was handed the sentence along with five other Brazilians, accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2013 during his time with AC Milan in Italy.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester City striker has however, through his lawyer, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was also absent in all of the court hearings held in northern Italy.
“We would like to clarify that he has already defended himself against the accusations, affirming that he did not participate in the episode,” a statement posted on the ex AC Milan player’s Instagram feed explained, adding that “All legal measures are being taken.”
According to reports, the Brazilian’s sentence will remain on hold pending completion of the appeal process while the whereabouts of the other accused persons remain unknown.
The court which sat in Milan also ordered that the victim be paid,60,000 euros ($71,000) compensation for her suffering.
