President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, rewarded D’Tigress with a million naira each for winning the 2017 Afrobasket championship in Bamako Mali.
The team returned to the country on Tuesday and was received by the President before the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja
President Buhari rewarded them with a million naira each and also said officials of the team will each receive N500,000.
He noted that he followed the performances of the players while he was in the United Kingdom on medical vacation.
The minister of sports and youth development, Solomon Dalong, added that the ministry took some steps that are beginning to yield positive result after realizing the challenges in the sector.
“The Buhari administration’s support for sports is an inspiration that has challenged sports men and women to make the country proud,”he stated.
President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation Ahmadu Musa Kido and team captain of D’Tigress Aisha Mohammed said the team will make the country proud in the 2018 world championship in Spain.
