I am sure the President will do the needful by initiating the right process.” The Senate ...

Like Biafra, Like Catalonia…Like Muhammadu Buhari, Like Francisco Franco.

By Okere Chidiebere Come this October, the Catalans will be voting in a referendum to secede from Spain. This sounds so sweet but it wasn’t an easy walk to freedom. (Go and read about their history). Catalans had endured all manner of military handedness in the days of the fascist,Francisco Franco. Franco like Buhari envisioned a nationalist Spain where none had historically existed. He used force on the Catalan to try and subdue them just as Buhari have tried to use force to suppress the Biafran agitation. These two men never believed in dialogue but in brutish force. Franco like Buhari ended up dividing the nation more than uniting it; the harder he tried suppressing Catalonia, the more the Catalans resented Spain. Buhari’s action at Aba and Umuahia in Abia State has made Igb...

US will not issue certain visas to few countries due to deportation issues

The U.S. State Department, on Wednesday, will stop issuing certain kinds of visas to some citizens of Cambodia, Eritrea, Guinea and Sierra Leone because the nations are not taking back their citizens the United States wants to deport. The new policies, laid out in State Department cables are the latest example of U.S. President Donald Trump’s effort to crack down on immigrants who are in the United States illegally. The cables, sent by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to consular officials around the world, said the four countries were “denying or unreasonably delaying” the return of their citizens, and that visa restrictions would be lifted in a country if it accepted its deportees. “The Secretary determines the categories of applicants subject to the visa restrict...

Hurricane Irma is ‘some big monster’ – Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump, on Sunday, called Hurricane Irma “some big monster” as it destroyed the Florida coast. “The bad news is that this is some big monster,” Trump told reporters at the White House, saying damage from the storm would be very costly. “Right now, we are worried about lives, not cost,” Trump said after returning from Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland where he monitored the storm and met with his Cabinet.
