This was disclosed not long ago by the Kano State Government House’ Director General of Media and Communications, Salihu Tanko Yakasi, on social media. Senate Changes Name Of Nigeria Police Force (See The New Name)

The Nigerian Senate has changed the Name of the Nigeria Police Force. The Senators voted to change the name to the Nigerian Police from its former appellation, the Nigeria Police Force. The move for the name change is coming as part of the ongoing process of constitutional reforms by the eighth assembly. 87 Senators were said to have voted for the name change with two Senators voting against, while one sustained .

Senate Bars Former President Goodluck Jonathan From Contesting Again

The Nigerian Senate has passed a new bill that would stop former Goodluck Jonathan for contesting for President again. The senate passed a motion for the bill during the voting of a series of bills on the floor of the house on Wednesday. The Bill stipulates a single tenure of four years for a former vice president who wants to contest for President after completing the tenure a sitting president. This now means that former President Goodluck Jonathan who, while he was a vice President had completed the tenure of Late President Umaru Yar’adua would not be eligible to run for the office of President on a second term even though he had ruled as an elected president for only a single term.

Senate Approves INEC To Conduct LG Elections

Following the recent moves for reforms in the 1999 Constitution, the Senate has today, voted to denude State Governments of the power to conduct elections for their respective Local Government Councils This new move brings to 33, the items proposed in the report on the 1999 Constitution amendment bill presented on Tuesday by Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate President. The DPS’ report had 32 items originally, which included the autonomy of the local government councils Senator Dino Melaye, (APC Kogi), however, noted that the conduct of local government elections by states does not support the idea of autonomy of the local government areas. CAF Shifts Nations Cup From January To June; Expands Slots From 16 To 24 Teams

The Confederation of African Football have expanded, by eight, the number of teams that will be participating in the African Cup Of Nations Tournament. This will now increase the number of teams participating in the continental tournament from 16 to 24 from the next edition in 2019 going forward. The decision for the expansion of biannual continental competition was reached during the recent CAF Symposium which took place in Morocco and a statement has been issued to that effect by the working party of CAF. In addition to the expansion, the time for the tournament will be moved from the usual January-February period to June-July which which will further align the tournament with Europe’s football calendar.

Meet Captain Joan Obasi, Nigeria’s Youngest Female Pilot

Captain Joan Obasi is said to be the youngest female pilot in the Nigeria. She currently works with Arik Air as pilot flying flights from Lagos to Johannesburg and has also been given recognition by the United States, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with her name included in the Certification Database of the FAA. The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has suspended Chief Yusuf Ogundare, the Baale of Shangisha in Magodo, for allegedly faking his kidnap. The Governor approved the suspension of the monarch on Thursday, after it was alleged that he faked his July 5th kidnap which supposedly occurred around the Center for Management Development Road located at Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area in Lagos. Etisalat Nigeria has had its name changed in a bid to rebrand and stabilize the current status of the company. Although, the new brand name is yet to be unveiled to the public, reports however, reveals that the new brand name is 9Mobile.
