Nigerian Jollof rice has been crowned the best Jollof in town in the Washington DC Jollof Festival.
The competition which is the first of its kind, was won by a Nigerian caterer, Ms. Atinuke Ogunsalu who runs a restaurant in Maryland called the Queensway Restaurant & Catering.
The event, organized by Afropolitan Insights, saw competitors drawn from both West and central African countries including Ghana, Sierra Leone and Cameroon.
Ms. Ogunsalu was awarded the prize for the maiden Jollof Hackathon in Washington DC by I/O Spaces after she proved herself the best Jollof rice cook on the day thereby securing the win for Nigeria at the event.
The finalist were allowed five minutes each to showcase their dish to a group of judges who graded them based on the originality, presentation and taste of their meals.
Ms. Ogunsalu took home the $1000 prize money and was also granted co-working services by I/O Spaces as well as an opportunity to work as a Chef with a soon to be opened upscale African Restaurant in Washington DC called Jollof Caviar.
