Senate Bars Former President Goodluck Jonathan From Contesting Again

The Nigerian Senate has passed a new bill that would stop former Goodluck Jonathan for contesting for President again.

The senate passed a motion for the bill during the voting of a series of bills on the floor of the house on Wednesday.

The Bill stipulates a single tenure of four years for a former vice president who wants to contest for President after completing the tenure a sitting president.

This now means that former President Goodluck Jonathan who, while he was a vice President had completed the tenure of Late President Umaru Yar’adua would not be eligible to run for the office of President on a second term even though he had ruled as an elected president for only a single term.
