The dismissal of those officers was commuted to retirement in year 2000 through a presidential amnesty granted on 29th May...

Like Biafra, Like Catalonia…Like Muhammadu Buhari, Like Francisco Franco.

By Okere Chidiebere Come this October, the Catalans will be voting in a referendum to secede from Spain. This sounds so sweet but it wasn’t an easy walk to freedom. (Go and read about their history). Catalans had endured all manner of military handedness in the days of the fascist,Francisco Franco. Franco like Buhari envisioned a nationalist Spain where none had historically existed. He used force on the Catalan to try and subdue them just as Buhari have tried to use force to suppress the Biafran agitation. These two men never believed in dialogue but in brutish force. Franco like Buhari ended up dividing the nation more than uniting it; the harder he tried suppressing Catalonia, the more the Catalans resented Spain. Buhari’s action at Aba and Umuahia in Abia State has made Igb...

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, held a closed door meeting with Governors of the South-East states, on Wednesday, in Enugu State where the governors were unable to convince him to drop his agitation for Biafra. The meeting took place in the Executive Council Chamber of the Enugu Government House, Enugu State. The governors were said to have invited Kanu to discuss issues concerning the alleged violation of his bail conditions that led to an order for his re-arrest and the inauguration of the Biafra Security Service in Abia State. According to report, after long hours of the closed door meeting, the governors were unable to convince Mazi Kanu to drop his agitation for Biafra. “They begged him to drop Biafra agitation but he shook his head. That’s why ...

Treating Nnamdi Kanu as a common criminal would be a tragic mistake- Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar

The former military Administrator of Kaduna State, Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (RTD), in a new statement told the federal government not to revoke the bail granted to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). His statement reads, “President Buhari’s insistence that the unity of Nigeria is a settled issue is a nationalistic wish and is no surprise coming from a veteran of civil war who fought to keep the country one. However, this does not take into account the mood of the nation as indicated by the growing agitations for self-determination, restructuring and many other similar demands.” “Nigeria’s unity can only be guaranteed when all its citizens feel they are getting a fair deal; when all its component parts are treated justly and equitably. When...

Mr. Kanu, however, vowed to resist arrest saying ‎anyone who tries to arrest him while he remains in the South-east would not leave the region “alive.” He stated: “Some idiots who are not educated said that they’ll arrest me, and I ask them to come. I’m in Biafra land. If any of them leaves Biafra land alive know that thi...

The Planned Kanu’s Re-arrest, Ohaneze Ndigbo’s Response and the Rest of Us.

By Charles Ogbu. Yesterday, the 26th day of August, 2017, the OHANEZE Ndigbo President General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, released a statement in which he fiercely rebuked the minister of Justice and Attorney General of Nigeria, Mr Abubakar Malami for calling for Nnamdi kanu’s re-arrest even while the genocidal quit notice-issuing Arewa Youths and the composers and distributors of the anti-Igbo hate songs yet walk the earth as free men and even enjoy protection from security agencies. For those who are yet to fully grasp Chief Nwodo’s message, let me break it down in my own words: Chief Nwodo was simply saying, Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB and by extension, Igbos, are not orphans. They have a father in me. We are republican in nature and as such, we can disagree and even quarrel amongst ours...

Nigeria – Biafra: Reactions to Buhari’s Speech by Charles Ogbu

OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BUHARI. By Charles Ogbu. Mr President, Sir, This open letter is necessitated by issues of urgent national importance not unconnected with your 3 minute recorded broadcast to Nigerians this morning where you stated that Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. Mr President, Sir, I wasn’t exactly born with a talent for political correctness so I like to assume your permission to pay you the courtesy of being blunt. First, I want to register my displeasure that you, a mere servant and employee of the Nigerian people, could derisively address your employers and the same people paying your salaries even when you are hardly at work, as “my dear citizens” instead of “my fellow citizens”. That derisive opening line in your speech l...

Security operatives gunned down IPOB members in Anambra State

Three members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were reportedly killed on Wednesday in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident was instigated by a planned visit of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to the area in furtherance of his anti-election campaign in the state. Kanu and his IPOB members had said that the November 18 poll in the state would not hold if the Federal Government does not oblige them a referendum to determine the fate and plausibility of a Sovereign State of Biafra. As early as 8am on Wednesday, security operatives made up of soldiers, police and other paramilitary agencies had converged on Ekwulobia. “The Biafran flags, caps, shirts and other items being sold by some youths were seized and burnt by the security operatives. They shot live bu...
