The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, yesterday led some leaders of South East Nigeria to pay their last respect to the late elder statesman, Alex Ekwueme whose remains arrived in the state for the final burial rites.
The remains arrived at the Akana Ibiam Airport at about 2:10 pm from Abuja where it had landed from London, United Kingdom earlier in the day.
Family members, cabinet members and top government functionaries including the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo were on standby to witness the parade of honour of the former Vice-president.
Ekwueme died on November 19, 2017 at a London Hospital after battling with what the family described as a chest infection.
He was the first elected Vice-President of Nigeria and was in office from 1979 to 1983.
