You Don’t Play Games with the Destiny of Nigerians – Doyin Okupe

The special assistant to Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe in an interview with Tribune said politicians should stop playing games with the destiny of Nigerians.

He said this in comparison to the Deja vu feeling he said Northerners are having on the ill health of the President.

“We do not tell each other the truth. The north is afraid; they have the déjà vu feeling. Because of the situation of the health of President Buhari, they are afraid of the scenario of the late President Umaru Yar’adua playing itself out again.”

He feels the Northerners are having the feeling that President Muhammadu Buhari may suffer the fate of late President Umaru Musa Ya’radua who died two years into governance leaving power in the hands of former President Goodluck Jonathan a southerner.

He hints that there exist an unwritten law which propagates zoning. The unwritten law of rotating the seat of the Presidency and upon Yar’adua’s death, the Northerners were cheated when Goodluck ran for Presidency in 2011 and won.

In this country, it may not be written in the constitution but once a southerner is President and completes his term, the next president will come from the north and vice versa.”

According to him, that ruling power should have gone to the north. He advised the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to not do the same should anything happen to the President to avoid crisis in Nigeria.
